Making a donation

The questions below are about the different ways that you can donate to Cancer Research UK.

Please click on the question of interest, or simply scroll down the list to view all answers.

Have a look at the Donate section on this site for information about the different ways to give. These include donating online, setting up a direct debit online, arranging a standing order, leaving a gift in your will, applying for our credit card, and the payroll giving scheme.

If you would like to make a donation to Cancer Research UK "in memory" of a loved one, you can do this through our Donate in memory website. The site enables you to create a personalised page for the person you are remembering, so that your friends and family can visit the page to join you in donating.

You can also make a donation "in memory" by calling our Supporter Services Department on 020 7121 6699 from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Alternatively, please send your donation to Cancer Research UK, PO Box 123, London, WC2A 3PX. Please include a brief covering letter, stating the purpose of the donation and the details of anyone else that you would like us to send an acknowledgement to.

You can find out about leaving a legacy in your Will on our dedicated Legacies website. If you would like to talk to someone about this further, please call our Legacy Information Executive on 020 7121 6697.

In order to amend your Direct Debit, please call our Supporter Services Department on 020 7121 6699 and we will arrange this for you. Our offices are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Under the Inland Revenue's Gift Aid scheme, Cancer Research UK is entitled to reclaim the tax made on gifts by UK taxpayers. This means that, if you are a UK taxpayer, your gift can increase by nearly a third – at no extra cost to you.

For example, if you give £10 to Cancer Research, and you Gift Aid your donation, the Inland Revenue will add £2.80, bringing the total donation to £12.80.

In addition, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can reclaim the 18 per cent difference between the higher rate of tax and the basic rate of tax, in your Self Assessment Return.

You can read more about our credit card and the terms and conditions on our credit card page.

Yes, we do. You can purchase gifts and cards from our online catalogue.

Our Give in Celebration website enables you to set up a personalised page to celebrate your event, whether a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or any other special day.

You can then invite friends and family to visit your page and donate online or donate by post using the donation slips we provide.

If you require any further assistance, please call our Give in Celebration Team on 020 7121 6698.

All the transactional areas of Cancer Research UK's websites (for example for donating, entering events and buying merchandise) are on a secure server and use industry standard 1024 SSL encryption.

When we capture your personal data it is encrypted in transit, and stored in a carefully controlled environment, with restricted access. We are fully committed to protecting the security of your data. More information on the steps we take to protect your privacy can be found on our privacy page.

We are extremely grateful for all donations we receive, regardless of the amount. We hope you will appreciate our commitment to spending as much as we possibly can on research. Every penny received really does make a difference.

We have taken the decision to only acknowledge individual donations of £10 and over. This is in order to save on administration costs and to ensure that as much of our funds as possible are put into research.

We aim to acknowledge all donations within 14 days of receipt. Sometimes, however, due to a large response to our appeals, backlogs can occur.

During these times, please remain patient with us and we will send your acknowledgement as soon as possible.

If you have not heard from us after three weeks please contact our Supporter Services team on 020 7121 6699 and we will look into this for you.

Cancer Research UK has employed street fundraisers since March 2007. We do not ask for money directly there and then on the street. Our street team collect names and addresses of people wanting to help us beat cancer and then we contact these individuals at a later date in order to find the best way for them to support Cancer Research UK.

If you would like any more information or would like to get involved please contact our Supporter Services Team on 020 7121 6699.
